This year I ended up in Utah based on a last minute decision (okay, okay ... I can't cook and I wasn't about to sacrifice my mom's food for an inevitably burnt turkey). I was so excited to see my family, and take that much needed break from school. Dinner was perfect (of course), and my mom was so sweet decorating the house in red, white, and blue for Seif's citizenship. It was a day later when I received the 4:00 am call with the news that my dad was life flighted to Salt Lake after a heart attack, that my trip took a nosedive.
On the plus side, my dad had surgery and is now recovering. The power of prayer is amazing. I am thankful for all of my friends and family who offered kind words and prayers while we waited for answers. I am thankful to God for answering our prayers, I am thankful I was able to be there when this happened, and I am thankful that I still have my dad here today. I don't know what I would have done had I lost him.
I hope you all had a happy holiday. Although mine didn't turn out perfectly, I was given the gift of gratitude. I couldn't ask for more than that.
